Now I know a lot of people tend to use their plastic sheds as storage for their garden supplies, so I imagine quite a few of you just might have a garden. In that case, I’m sure you’re always on the look out for that special something that will make your garden that much nicer. This blog I was just reading has some of the best garden decor ideas I’ve seen! They’ve got information ranging from landscape lighting to exotic ornaments, and it’s excellent.

Paint!

Paint!

Is It Possible?

A lot of people wonder, “Is it possible to paint my Rubbermaid shed?” Unfortunately the answer is no. Outdoor plastic sheds are constructed out of heavy-duty resin material. This is great for protecting the shed from sunlight and the elements, but it is terrible when it comes to painting. Even products like the Krylon Fusion paints won’t adhere to the resin.

There are dangerous industrial chemicals which will dye the shed for you, but these aren’t made available to the public, and a plastic shed ain’t worth dying for.

If you ignore this and do try to paint your shed, you’ll find that the paint will dry and adhere initially. But after a few days it will begin to peel, and your shed will look pretty terrible.

Plastic is one of the newest construction materials to hit the whole outdoor storage scene.  Homeowners love it for its durability and ability to withstand harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, and hail.  Companies such as Rubbermaid, C&H, and Arrow manufacture small, inexpensive plastic sheds that are great for storing bikes, other sporting goods, pool equipment, and other outdoor objects.

Though plastic sheds are generally not as large as metal or wooden sheds, they can get to be reasonable sizes.  In fact, a company called Brighton manufactures a massive 8×10 foot model at a price comparable to a decent wooden shed.

Plastic sheds this large are the exception rather than the norm, however. Like I mentioned earlier, most models you’ll find will be smaller. Because of this they are pretty easy to build and won’t look out of place in a smaller yard or on a deck. You’ll find many shapes and sizes available, which are perfect for storing treasures from your home or garage.

While plastic sheds are certainly not as attractive as wooden ones, you’ll find that the convenience of not having to worry about mold, mildew, or termites will more than make up for appearances. Plus, a plastic shed basically looks just like a painted wooden shed!

I’ll end with a quote from Teddy Roosevelt. Not so much because it applies, but just because it is a great quote!

“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure…than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”
-Theodore Roosevelt
